How much oil is appropriate to add to a planetary reducer?
For cycloidal pinwheel reducers, as shown in Figure 2, the oil level should not exceed 1/2; otherwise, oil will leak from beneath the coupling that connects the reducer to the motor. Even if there is an oil seal in place, it may fail over time and cause leakage as well
It cannot be increased to one half, because if it is increased to one half, oil will leak from the vent hole in Figure 1
You must know what model reducer it is before you can add it
Figure 1 has a sight glass, while Figure 2 has a level gauge. I can’t understand it; I’d better check the manufacturer’s instructions. There is another one on the side in the photo; if it is working properly, it can be used as a reference
As specified in the instructions, if not available, regular gear oil can also be used
In this type of reducer, due to the presence of a J-shaped element in the middle, it is better to use submerged lubrication for the bearings associated with that element; therefore, it is necessary to reach the middle part of the gauge, where the oil level is slightly higher as shown in the diagram; Initially, for such reducers, oil was added until it just reached the mark on the gauge; in other words, the bearings were lubricated by splashing oil. However, practice has shown that this method is detrimental to the lifespan of the bearings.
