Bolts and nuts are often marked with various symbols such as numbers, letters, hyphens, slashes, dots, etc. There are two common types of fastener markings: a unique manufacturer identification symbol (such as a letter or mark) and information indicating the strength of the fastener. Such markings vary depending on the manufacturing method of the fastener. Metric fasteners made of alloy steel that meet ISO standards, as well as metric fasteners made of stainless steel, are listed in the table below. UNC threaded fasteners primarily follow ASTM standards.
