Are the inlet and outlet of a triple-lobe Roots compressor usually at a 90-degree angle?

The inlets and outlets of three-lobe Roots compressors are generally at a 90-degree angle to each other, while those of two-lobe compressors are usually on the same straight line? Why?
Domestic models all have 90-degree inlets and outlets, while most imported brands feature direct in and out flow; this has nothing to do with having two or three blades – it’s just a matter of different design conventions. Moreover, domestic Roots blowers have not seen any improvement over time
