I would like to ask: for a 4M type symmetrically balanced compressor with 4 columns and 2 compression stages, what are the reasons for vibration in the inlet and outlet pipelines of a reciprocating compressor? How to solve it?
1. Vibration in the inlet and outlet pipelines of reciprocating compressors is a common phenomenon; however, when the vibration levels exceed acceptable limits, it can lead to failures in the piping system, the compressor, and the pipe supports. Measures must therefore be taken to keep the vibration within acceptable ranges. 2. The factors that cause excessive vibration depend on the site conditions. Macroscopically, this can be described as resonance occurring when the pulsation frequency of the airflow in the reciprocating machine overlaps with or is close to the natural vibration frequency of the pipelines. Therefore, solutions to this problem are also sought by addressing these two aspects. 3. During the design phase, pulsation simulation calculations are carried out based on the compressor piping and vessel layout. By taking certain measures such as adjusting the piping arrangement or adding orifice plates, the frequency of airflow pulsations and the natural vibration frequency of the pipelines can be altered. Generally, piping that has undergone pulsation simulation calculations and been verified shows a relatively lower likelihood of experiencing significant vibrations. 4. If excessive vibration occurs after the equipment piping has been finalized, the vibration is generally alleviated by adjusting the positions of the pipe supports and hangers, as well as the load on the elastic supports and hangers. Experienced technicians are needed to make adjustments based on the on-site conditions. 5. In some cases, the framework supporting the pipe hangers has low stiffness and is not sufficient to suppress vibrations; therefore, the framework needs to be reinforced.
We have encountered similar situations on-site as well; suggestions are as follows: 1. A buffer tank can be added at the outlet; 2 Strengthen the outlet pipelines and pipe racks to eliminate vibrations caused by pipeline resonance and superposition (measurements taken before and after using a vibration detector confirmed its effectiveness). 3. Failing to take contact and instead crudely installing metal bellows hoses does not resolve the underlying problem; the risk remains.
