On February 14, reporters learned from CITIC Heavy Industry that recently, the world’s first set of key components for the 5600mm rolling mill, manufactured by the company for its key customers, were forged using an 18,500-ton hydraulic press at its headquarters in Luoyang. This marks another advancement for CITIC Heavy Industry in the field of extreme manufacturing. Heavy plate rolling mills are primarily used to produce heavy plate products. Wide and thick steel plates find extensive use in industries such as large ships, machinery, construction, pipelines, and automobiles, where they play a very important role. As a key spare part for wide and thick plate rolling mills, the support rollers for such mills directly determine the specifications of these mills, thereby indirectly affecting the quality level of large machinery, ships, and other equipment. According to a responsible official from CITIC Heavy Industries, this batch consists of 3 support roll forgings, each weighing 322.01 tons. They were forged from 483-ton steel ingots, with a maximum diameter of 2.52 meters and a length of 12 meters, marking the birth of a new world champion among rolling mills.
The successful forging of the supporting roll forgings for the 5600mm rolling mill is of great significance; it enables alignment with the world’s advanced manufacturing technologies for supporting rolls used in wide and thick plates, accelerates the localization of such supporting rolls, enhances market competitiveness, and contributes to blocking imports and protecting domestic industries. ”A responsible official from CITIC Heavy Industry said.
