In the past, Nanchong had a fairly complete range of industrial sectors, with many state-owned factories in the area, such as internal combustion engine factories, refineries, silk factories, and auto parts factories. It was enviable to start working in such organizations back in those days, as it meant having a secure job and no worries about food or clothing. The existence of numerous factories shows that Nanchong’s industry was once very developed. I’d like to share information about one of these industries, one that is number one in China. It was formerly an internal combustion engine factory in Nanchong; it later became Dongfeng Nanchong Automobile Co., Ltd., and is now part of Geely Sichuan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. The original Dongfeng Nanchong Automobile also produced natural gas engines. Many taxis and buses are powered by natural gas. On Beigandao in Mashi, Nanchong City, there is a CNG refueling station that features a natural gas compressor, which is displayed under a glass cover for visitors to see. It is said to be China’s first natural gas compressor.
