On December 23, the China National Machinery Industry Federation and the China General Machinery Industry Association jointly organized an evaluation meeting for new products. The first domestically produced ultra-high-speed direct-drive motor with a capacity of 5600 kW and a rotation speed range of 9540–10017 r/min, developed by Shanghai Electric Group’s Shanghai Motor Factory Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Electric”), as well as the first domestically produced large-capacity synchronous motor of 48600 kW designed for use in air separation electric drive units with a capacity of 105,000 Nm³/h, passed the expert evaluation successfully. This marks a significant breakthrough in China’s field of high-end motor equipment, providing essential support for ensuring industrial security and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of industry. After going through stages such as development reports, document reviews, and question-and-answer sessions, the expert panel reached the conclusion that these two new products have a reasonable design, excellent performance, and independent intellectual property rights; they fill a gap in the domestic market, their key technical specifications are at the advanced level of similar international products, and they are ready for mass production. Ultra-high-speed motors with tens of thousands of revolutions per minute break long-standing monopolies, enabling green upgrades in energy-intensive industries. In the project to convert the \"four-in-one nitric acid\" compression units at Ningxia Runxia Company from steam-driven to electric-driven systems, China’s first domestically developed 5600kW ultra-high-speed direct-drive motor, manufactured by Shangdian Company, succeeded in its first start-up attempt and passed a 72-hour continuous operation test, marking a milestone achievement for China in the field of large-capacity electric drive technology operating at tens of thousands of revolutions per minute – a breakthrough from scratch. This not only represents the substantial achievements that Shangdian Company has made over more than a decade in the field of ultra-high-speed motors through a process of preliminary research, prototype development, and product creation, but it also signifies a complete break from the long-standing reliance on foreign brands in this sector. It provides domestic solutions that are under one’s own control, helping to address the problem of dependence on imported components in key industrial equipment. As the core component of the \"ultra-high-speed direct-drive electric compression units,\" this motor features high output capacity and extremely high rotation speeds in the tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. Its successful deployment not only provides essential equipment for industries with high energy consumption such as nitric acid to transition from traditional steam-driven systems to efficient electric-driven systems, but it also significantly reduces production energy consumption and carbon emissions by improving system efficiency, thus offering a practical technical pathway toward achieving the \"dual carbon\" goals. A breakthrough has been achieved in the localization of motors used in 100,000 Nm3/h air separation units, thereby ensuring the security of the **high-end equipment industry. In the field of large-scale air separation units, which has also long been dominated by imported brands, Shangdian Company has successfully manufactured high-capacity synchronous motors for the electric drive systems of Shenhua Baotou’s 105,000 Nm3/h air separation unit; the power of these motors reaches 48,600 kW. As the first domestically produced product for domestic 100,000-class air separation electric drive projects, this motor has completed its type tests, with all its performance indicators reaching international advanced levels. The successful implementation of this project fully demonstrates that Shangdian Corporation possesses the full capability to develop and manufacture ultra-large, high-performance motors capable of operating under complex conditions. This will help to reverse the long-standing monopoly held by imported brands in the field of electric drives for large-scale air separation units, thereby providing an important guarantee for the safety and autonomy of advanced equipment in strategic industries such as chemicals and metallurgy. These two new products focus on two advanced electric drive technologies – \"ultra-high speed\" and \"ultra-large capacity\" – demonstrating Shangdian Company’s strong technical expertise and innovation capabilities. Its successful application and verification have not only improved China’s level of equipment autonomy in key sectors such as the chemical industry and air separation, but also provided replicable and scalable technical models and product options for adopting efficient, green electric drives in more industrial fields such as oil and gas, power generation, and metallurgy. In the future, Shangdian Company will continue to deepen its innovation and research efforts in the field of efficient, green, and high-end motor equipment, constantly making breakthroughs in key core technologies, thereby providing stronger and more independent impetus for the upgrading of industrial equipment in China as well as its transition toward a green and low-carbon model.
