The Shenyang Gas Compressor Factory, located at No. 18 Yunfeng North Street in Tiexi District, was established in 1938 for Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. It became the first specialized compressor manufacturing plant after the founding of the People’s Republic of China; China’s first air compressors as well as the first oil-free lubrication compressors were all designed and manufactured here. Once a large state-owned key enterprise, it had long been the leading manufacturer and research and testing facility in China’s compressor industry, serving as the dominant force in this sector. Records show that in 1960, in accordance with the instructions from Bureau 1 and Bureau 3 of the Ministry of Machinery and the Shenyang Machinery Bureau, the Design Department and Research Laboratory of Shenyang Gas Compressor Factory were merged to establish the Shenyang Gas Compressor Research Institute. In 1965, the magazine \"Compressor Technology\" published by the Shenyang Gas Compressor Research Institute was designated as a ministerial-level scientific and technical publication. Shenyang Gas Compressor Factory holds a pivotal position in the history of air compressors in China. It served as a leading enterprise in the industry during the thirty years prior to the reform and opening up, truly earning the title of the \"eldest son\" of the air compressor industry. In 1998, Shenyang Gas Compressor Factory was restructured and renamed Shenyang Gas Compressor Co., Ltd. In 2004, some of its staff were integrated into Shenyang Gear Group, and in 2006 it moved to the Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Zone; it is now part of the group’s reciprocating machine company.
