The key question is what it is used for; pressure, medium, and temperature should be considered together in accordance with the relevant regulations.
It is a pressure vessel and requires supervision and inspection. Is the intersection of this circumferential weld and the longitudinal weld a T-joint weld? Should this longitudinal weld be counted as 2 or 4?
I really haven’t seen any regulations or standards stating that it’s not allowed.
It goes against convention, but that doesn’t mean it’s not allowed; the standards state that cross welds should not be used, but they don’t say such welds cannot be employed.
