When maintaining equipment such as heat exchangers and installing floating heads, I’ve seen that packing is often wrapped with Teflon tape. Why is Teflon tape used? Over time, could the raw material tape corrode and lead to poor sealing? Please discuss this actively – it will earn extra points

The gasket seals on the end caps are relatively large, resulting in poor sealing performance; wrapping PTFE tape can eliminate leaks caused by flaws in the flanges.
Teflon tape is PTFE; it is used for sealing and to provide corrosion resistance, but it should be noted that its operating temperature range should not exceed 100 degrees.

The main purpose of winding Teflon tape around a gasket should be: 1. To prevent the gasket from being damaged. 2. Ensure the reliability of gasket sealing. 3. Prevent the gasket from sticking to the sealing surface due to heat after long-term use, in order to protect the sealing surface. Especially the third point is generally its main purpose.
