This post was last edited by haohaogan on 2017-3-6 at 10:28. I have installed drain valves on both the safety valve exhaust pipeline and the main steam pipeline – is this the correct approach? There are two stop valves installed on the drain pipelines; I followed what others did in this regard, without delving into why it is done that way. Those with more knowledge could please share their views. As a supplementary question, what is commonly used as insulation material for thermal pipelines in boiler rooms these days – rock wool or silicate products?
Steam traps should be installed purposefully; they are generally not installed on safety exhaust vents. In an emergency, the safety valve activates, and this usually happens in a very short time – after all, it’s just for venting air, so what’s the point of having a steam trap? It must be installed under the U-bend on the steam delivery pipeline to prevent the accumulation of condensate, which could otherwise lead to a liquid seal in the pipeline and cause cold shock!
The drain pipe does not need to be installed, while the main steam pipe should be installed. For insulation, I use rock wool.

If condensate water is recovered, a stop valve should also be installed after the steam trap; if it is discharged directly into a drain, a stop valve at the rear end isn’t very useful
There is water accumulated in those empty pipes. Should the water be drained in advance to ensure it doesn’t affect future use?
