Dear all, as the title suggests: when joining steel members with bolts, how should the strength of the bolts and the connection plates be evaluated? As shown in the figure below, given the tensile forces and moments at the connection points (FX, FY, FZ, MX, MY, MZ), how can one determine the strength of the connection bolts and plates? What is the calculation method? Which standard or book does it come from? Thank you
If LZ needs to obtain accurate values, they can either consult textbooks on mechanics of materials, or simply use PRO/E to conduct a simple stress analysis. However, there is a shortcut: treat the intermediate gasket as a flange, calculate the equivalent flange pressure according to Section 9 of HG/T20582, and then select the appropriate thickness for the flange – this will suffice. (The shear stress at the fillet welds between the steel members and the gasket still needs to be checked.)
