Why are rate limits for pressure increase and decrease specified for boiler pressure tests?
Operating in accordance with the voltage rise and drop curves is intended to ensure a smooth increase and decrease in voltage, so as to prevent severe fluctuations that could damage the equipment.
This is mainly for safety reasons; the voltage increase rate cannot be too fast, as it is after all a pressure testing procedure designed to ensure that stress is distributed evenly across the equipment during the voltage increase. Additionally, it makes it easier to determine at what pressure level the equipment starts to leak.
During pressure testing, the main focus is of course to check for leaks and determine at what pressure they occur. Once a leak is detected, it must be repaired; there’s no need to continue with the testing, and this is also for safety reasons
