Newbie seeking help

I have been in the chemical equipment manufacturing industry for almost 2 months now. I didn’t study any related subjects in college, and there was no one to teach me; I found that there is an overwhelming amount of stuff to learn. I simply can’t understand the standards, and right now I’m very confused about where to start.
Find a mentor in your company to guide you.
I’m wondering if there are any simpler books that I could use to get started. (The books available at the company are meant for those who already know the subject; I have no foundation at all and find them completely incomprehensible, like reading hieroglyphs.)

Then you need to be proactive and enthusiastic; don’t be shy, otherwise you might not learn anything or make little progress.
As a newcomer, of course you should take the initiative to ask. If you don’t ask, how will others know whether you can do it or not?
