1.25Cr-0.5Mo (14Cr1MoR) suffers from temper embrittlement in the heat-affected zone of the weld; therefore, when placing an order, a requirement is specified for the X factor of the weld to be less than 15； 1. Is it necessary to specify a J value (less than 100) for the material itself at the time of ordering? 2. If a J-factor requirement is specified, can this value be achieved for the 1.25Cr-0.5Mo (14Cr1MoR) material?
1. Since the issue of temper embrittlement is a concern, the J coefficient of the steel plate should be specified when placing an order. The evaluation criterion for the 14Cr1MoR project we have worked on is J≤150. 2. For the 14Cr1MoR material, if the J coefficient is required to be below 100, the contents of Si and Mn must be below the lower limit of the standard values. 100 is usually the requirement for 2-1/4Cr1Mo material, while the minimum standard values for Si and Mn are much lower.
Our company’s J coefficient for 14Cr1MoR is 150; is 100 too high for the original poster? It should still be possible to use 100, but the price might be considerably higher
