The bottom plates of saddles, ear seats, and skirt seats must meet the requirements of GB150.4 8.2.2.1; is PWHT required if the thickness exceeds 32 mm?

1 The fillet welds between the stiffener plate and the bottom plate shall be heat-treated. Corner welds of carbon-manganese steel structural members generally do not require post-weld heat treatment, as the welding dimensions are usually small. 2 Does the bottom plate’s own seam not require heat treatment? If the base plate is particularly thick (for example, greater than 38 mm), it is likely because the base plate is subjected to large loads. The main purpose of post-weld heat treatment is to relieve welding residual stresses. Whether post-weld heat treatment is required depends mainly on the size of the weld, rather than the thickness of the material.
