However, when calculating the area of the tie rods, it is permissible to approximate this area as the line connecting the centers of the circles inscribed within three or more adjacent support points and the midpoint between two adjacent support points. In that case, do the support points also cannot be on the same semicircle? Which drawing method in the picture is correct?

To determine the supporting area, it is necessary to include every circle; the final supporting area must cover everything completely, otherwise how can it provide support? It is neither possible nor allowed for there to be gaps between the struts (the absence of one circle will inevitably result in gaps). According to the rules for drawing equivalent circles, and using formula (76), the minimum thickness of the tube sheet can be calculated only by finding the maximum value of the (KDe) product. Based on the given calculation formula, the purpose of calculating the support area is different from that of finding the equivalent circle.
