For composite steel plates, ultrasonic testing of their joint surfaces is generally performed to confirm the bond rate. Under strict requirements, manufacturers usually carry out an additional ultrasonic inspection, which is generally applied to the base material. So, I have a question: 1. Can ultrasonic testing of the binding rate only be performed on the surface side of the multilayered layer? 2. If the bond ratio can also be measured on the surface of the base layer, then can measuring the bond ratio on that side replace the ultrasonic testing of the base layer material? (Generally, the acceptable level for the bond ratio is I, while the acceptable level for the base layer material is II.) Or in other words, can a scanning of the bonding rate on the laminated side replace the ultrasonic testing of the base material?
It’s different; the scanning for the bonding rate of composite panels focuses on the joint surface, while ultrasonic testing of substrates detects defects within the material itself. The comparison test blocks are also different.
They are not the same. One is the binding rate, and the other is internal defects.
Oh, I see. So, which side should be used for the complexity scan? Either is fine; it’s still specified to be from the double-layer side.

It is generally started from the base layer, but it can also be done from the coating side. The standards specify it.
