SHS01012-2004 recommends regular foundation inspections for large storage tanks, while SY/T 5921-2017 calls for annual measurement and assessment of tank foundations, providing the corresponding measurement methods. However, in our company, the monitoring of storage tank foundations is largely a formality. When communicating with other petrochemical companies, we learned that they usually establish a reference monitoring point; for monitoring the settlement of storage tank foundations, they use stainless steel tips, and they commission surveying agencies to conduct measurements each year, which results in relatively accurate data. I’m not sure if the oil and petrochemical industry follows the same approach.
