UT isn’t surface inspection, right? Are you referring to MT (for carbon steel) and PT (for carbon steel and stainless steel)?

Another important point is that MT can be performed repeatedly, allowing the previous test results to be reproduced multiple times, which requires fewer skills from the operator. If the opening of PT is small, and if it is managed to be created on the first attempt, there is a risk that it won’t be possible to do so again if doubts arise; this is because the opening is difficult to clean thoroughly and may become blocked, preventing the coloring solution from penetrating during subsequent attempts. Moreover, coloring requires a certain level of skill from the operator, and different people may achieve different results when performing this task.
Whatever MT can detect, PT can also detect; but whatever MT can detect, PT may not necessarily be able to detect it.
