Under the chimney baffle of the UOP propane dehydrogenation heater, a 45-degree inclined snuffing steam/purge interface is required. Does anyone among you experts know what purpose this interface serves? Some say it is used for purging the baffle, but I don’t think that’s reliable – there’s no need for it. Others say it is used to introduce startup steam to facilitate ignition of the furnace, but that also doesn’t seem right; introducing startup steam increases the draft in the furnace chamber, which is not conducive to ignition either. Please, experts, give me some guidance. Thank you!

In my opinion, at the initial stage of igniting the furnace, slightly opening this reserve valve helps to regulate the negative pressure in the furnace chamber (which reduces the flue gas temperature to some extent, thereby indirectly reducing the suction force in the chimney). After all, if the flue dampers are too large, even a slight opening can have a significant impact on the negative pressure in the furnace chamber.
