Our company generally uses forged pipes for small fittings in the DN20-50 range. So, what is the typical thickness of the larger end of these forged pipes? For DN20-50 fittings, I’ve seen in previous drawings that the thickness ranges from 8 to 12 millimeters.
The big-end is involved in the reinforcement calculation, and it needs to be determined based on the calculations. Meeting several conditions of GB150 can exempt the calculation. As shown in the figure

Well, these conditions are definitely met. I’m just wondering that for ordinary container walls with a thickness of around 10 units, and for the larger ends of such small reinforcement pipes where we use a wall thickness of over 10 units as well, isn’t that a bit too thick?
But it seems that by adding more corrosion allowance, 12 layers of thickness should also be acceptable

The thickness of the overlay should not be less than half of the shell thickness, while the thickness of the forged tube should not exceed twice the shell thickness. From the perspective of controlling stress concentration, it is best if its thickness is similar to that of the shell
If there are other factors such as stress corrosion, the corrosion margin itself is also large; I have seen cases where the corrosion margin was 5 mm, so it’s not surprising to use such a value in these situations. Consider together.
