In the HG/T20 582-2011 standard, in the section on \"Design and Calculation of Large Tapered Conical Heads,\" if there are design examples for large-tapered, flangeless conical heads with reinforcing rings, then when calculating the cross-sectional area of the channel steel used as a reinforcing ring, is it the width times the height of the channel steel? (For example, for 12.6# channel steel, 53x126=6678mm2); this value differs significantly from the specified value of 1569.2mm2 as given in the standards for channels of the same specification. Is such calculation correct? During the calculation process, the cross-sectional area of the reinforcement ring turns out to be quite large. If angle steel is used as the reinforcement ring, no angle steel with the required cross-sectional area can be found. Furthermore, as described in Figure 2 on page 99 of NB/T47003.1-2009, the maximum width at which the reinforcement ring extends outside the cylinder should not exceed 16 times the thickness of the reinforcement ring. Engineers with similar design experience are requested to provide guidance on the issues above.

That can’t be right; with these dimensions of width x height, it’s no longer a channel steel – it’s a rectangle instead. The cross-sectional area is provided in various reference books, standards, manuals, and some calculation software, so there is no need to calculate it yourself. Just check it
