Recently, an external construction team installed pipes, and there was no visible rust on their surface. It seems that rust was prevented by simply polishing them, but the new manager ordered them to spray water on the pipes to cause rust to form first before polishing them. Is this reasonable? Is it really necessary? I would appreciate it if experts could help me figure this out
I’ve heard of this for the first time. It’s good that it hasn’t rusted, right?

After the manufacturing and shaping of new pipes, sheets, and profiles, their surfaces usually have an oxide layer (gray-blue in color). This oxide layer cannot be removed – or can only be removed incompletely – using conventional rust-removal methods, which in turn poses a risk to the quality of the anti-corrosion coating, as rust may reappear in certain areas. Therefore, the methods for removing these oxide layers include grinding, rusting by spraying water (or even saltwater) followed by grinding, and sandblasting.
For pipes that require high standards, sandblasting is now the preferred method; the traditional water-based sandblasting technique is rarely used. There are mobile sandblasting machines with sand recovery capabilities, costing around 30,000 to 40,000, and our unit has such machines
