I. Introduction to the use of side filters in the coal chemical industry: Tianyuan Chemical, a subsidiary of Jinmei Group, is located in Gaoping, Shanxi. It mainly produces fertilizers such as urea. The volume of water circulating on-site is 20,000 m3/h, and it is necessary to design a side filtration system to reduce the turbidity of the water quality. Since the cooling tower system is located adjacent to the client’s coal plant, the frequent transportation of coal by trucks, as well as coal loading and unloading, results in a large amount of coal ash entering the water system, causing unstable water quality. The client was using side filters from Changsha, but the quality of the water produced by these filters was unstable, and sand leakage occurred frequently during backwashing. Taking into account the characteristics of the client as a coal chemical enterprise, Linghang Filtration proposed a solution after conducting an on-site assessment. II. Leading Filter’s approach to Jinmei Group Tianyuan Chemical Co., Ltd.’s design for side filters: In March 2017, Leading Filter developed the LH-XG-1700 model of side filter, consisting of a total of 17 modular units. The principle for side filtration is based on a water flow rate of 5%, resulting in a total of 1100 m3/h. Due to space constraints, the entire set of side filters cannot be assembled into a skid-mounted unit; instead, they must be connected individually through on-site piping. Dimension design: The size of each unit is 1700mm X 2100mm. Water collection design: Custom-made filters made from special materials, featuring a six-claw structure that provides high surface strength and resistance to external forces; the water quality output is consistent, and backwashing prevents sand from escaping, which has earned high praise from clients. Corrosion prevention design: The tanks and pipelines are lined with rubber, forming a complete system that prevents secondary pollution caused by corrosion; this approach is particularly suitable for coal chemical enterprises. Piping design: 17 set of side filters on-site, with the inlet, outlet, and drain ports connected in parallel. Ultimately, after 7 days of system operation, the turbidity of the inlet water was 58 NTU, while that of the outlet water dropped to 3.3 NTU, fully meeting the owner’s requirements. III.
