This post was last edited by wyfwiseman on 2019-6-19 11:34 regarding ASME materials. Material standard SA516, grade 70. It’s the same as GB713; Q345R means the same thing. Among them, SA516 is the standard designation, while Gr70 indicates a strength grade of 70ksi.
It can’t be directly substituted for Q345R, right?
SA516Gr.70 is a carbon steel plate for medium and low-temperature pressure vessels, in compliance with ASME standards. To meet the various requirements of users and facilitate production management, the S and P requirements for different steel grades are further divided into three levels: I, II, and III.
That’s not allowed! The working stress and allowable stress are different. Moreover, the standard for pressure vessels that I was referred to uses Q345R, where the ‘R’ denotes pressure vessels.
Although its material is similar to that of 16Mnr, and Q345R also includes 16Mnr, they probably cannot be used interchangeably; this is just my personal opinion.
Are there any relatively new and comprehensive material comparison tables by country?
Unless agreed upon with the client, or the original design team approves the change. But since the main entity has changed, the change loses its meaning.

However, there are specific requirements regarding the use of Q345R in equipment designed according to ASME standards. SA516Gr.70 can be used as a substitute for Q345R, and this is recognized by the Standardization Committee
