Where do the symbols for channel steel, angle steel L, etc. in drawing come from? I have been doing drawings for several years now, and I’ve noticed that our company’s drawings consistently use the notation [ for channel steel, L for angle steel, and – for flat steel. I checked both the design manuals and mechanical drawing manuals, but I couldn’t find such notations there. Where do they originate from? Or is it used for easier identification?

In CAD, whether this is displayed depends on the font; some fonts do not support it
