There are three anchor-type enamel-lined mixing tanks, used for handling substances such as tetrachloroethylene, hexachloroethane, and hexachlorobutadiene. These tanks are equipped with jackets for cooling; the cooling medium is low-temperature dichloromethane. The inlet temperature of this medium is -10°C, while the outlet temperature is -5°C. The temperature of the material entering the mixing tanks is 70°C, and it needs to be cooled down to below 10°C. Initially, the temperature dropped by 10°C per hour, so it was possible to reach below 10°C within a few hours. However, now the cooling rate of all three units has suddenly become very slow – sometimes the temperature drops by less than 1°C per hour. The supply of low-temperature dichloromethane as well as its inlet and outlet temperatures were checked, and no abnormalities were found. The composition of the material was also examined, with no issues detected. It’s not clear what the cause of this problem is
