Dear sea friends, according to information provided by suppliers, it is difficult to find S31603 stainless steel sheets that meet the GBT 4237 standard on the market, while it is easier to obtain those that comply with the GBT 24511 standard. Why is that?
Is there any difference in this price?

\"Stainless steel plates and strips for pressure equipment\" (GB24511-2009) was issued on October 30, 2009, and came into effect on June 1, 2010. This standard is specific to stainless steel plates and strips used in boilers and pressure vessels; the materials specified in \"Hot-rolled stainless steel plates and strips\" (GB/T4237-2007) cannot be used anymore for the manufacture of boilers and pressure vessels. The relevant requirements for implementing GB24511-2009 are notified as follows: First, our bureau will, on a gradual basis, conduct capacity assessments in accordance with GB24511-2009 for those manufacturers of steel plates (strips) whose licenses specify the GB/T4237-2007 standard. II. At present, GB150, the referenced standard for the \"Safety Technical Inspection Regulations for Fixed Pressure Vessels,\" is under revision. Materials specified in GB24511-2009 are not subject to technical evaluation at this time, and pressure vessel manufacturers may use them for manufacturing.
The official explanation is that steel plates conforming to GB4237 will not be allowed for use in the manufacture of boiler pressure vessels. Data from steel mills indicate that the price of stainless steel is primarily determined by the price of Ni in the international market; in terms of manufacturing costs, GB4237 and GB24511 are similar. Furthermore, nowadays, when engineering companies and design firms prepare tender documents for procurement, they use GB24511 as the standard code for both atmospheric pressure vessels and pressure vessels used in boilers; therefore, steel mills naturally produce vessels that comply with GB24511 standards. As a result, there is an excess of 24511 grade steel plates, while there is a shortage of 4237 grade steel plates; in some cases, only 304 grade steel plates are available for purchase.
This phenomenon does exist; GB/T24511 applies to stainless steel plates and strips used in pressure-bearing equipment, and its technical requirements are stricter than those of GB/T4237 – the higher standard shall be followed, not the lower one!
