In the heat exchanger, the alkaline solution flows through the shell side, while steam flows through the tube side. The original material was 10# steel, but now it is planned to change it to 316L. Are there any better recommendations? ?

It seems like you’re going in the wrong direction here; isn’t there any process calculation?
What is the concentration of the alkaline solution, and what is the maximum temperature? Using this alkaline solution in the tube side isn’t effective either; 316L steel won’t hold up for long and will get corroded through.
The falling film evaporators used for caustic soda come in types with steam on the shell side and caustic solution on the tube side; the material used depends on the steam pressure and the temperature of the caustic solution. The pipes are available in 316L as well as nickel.
For alkaline solutions, the temperature is important; when it exceeds 100 degrees, even 316L steel can’t withstand it, so N6 has to be used instead
Given these conditions, the alkaline solution should be heated with steam; generally, steam is used in the shell side. Materials can be selected with reference to the corrosion manual.
The 300 series stainless steels can’t withstand it. Conditional nickel-based or Monel.
Well, the public has sharp eyes; alkali solutions flow through the pipe network, so material 316L isn’t suitable – duplex steel is a decent alternative. It takes just one or two years; basically, 3 old units can be used to build 2 new ones
Putting aside the material, there are problems even with the selection of the tube side and shell side! Alkaline solutions tend to crystallize and cause blockages; how is it possible to choose the shell side?
