The circulating water flows through the shell side; then why is an exhaust drain installed right where the circulating water enters the shell side? Why not install it further downstream, so that the water can flow a bit more before the gas is pushed backward and then discharged? When designing a circulating water system where exhaust is released as soon as it enters the shell side, what aspects are mainly taken into consideration? If the heat exchanger is placed horizontally, it doesn’t matter where it is installed. If the heat exchanger is placed at an angle, it should be positioned at the highest point. The placement at the indicated position is intended to facilitate operation, either at the user’s request or because that location is the highest point. Of course, there are also those that are not installed on the heat exchanger, but instead discharge air directly in the outlet pipeline

As long as it’s at the highest point, there should be no problem. We also need to take a look at the internal structure of your heat exchanger – is it of the U-tube type or a floating head type?

The exhaust should generally be placed at the highest point to ensure complete expulsion of gases; there is no fixed requirement for it to be located at the inlet. Additionally, if both water enters and exits, it is best to use an arrangement with water entering from below and exiting from above.
