On page 23 of the standards for tower-type containers, in the diagram of the skirt joint, after the gusset plates are lifted into place they are welded in place; no weld lines are shown on the side of the gusset plates that is adjacent to the skirt. Does this mean that only three sides need to be welded?
It’s impossible to weld everything firmly; the issue of expansion volume must be taken into account. I’ve also never seen design requirements specifying welded bolts; accidents caused by welded bolts have occurred from time to time in the past.
Is that location difficult to weld and does full welding not require it?
After being lifted into place, weld it firmly – if welding three sides still doesn’t ensure firmness?

After all, the tower is first cast with its footings; even with formwork, there are still significant errors. Therefore, the designed bearing holes are much larger than the diameter of the bolts; In this way, the contact area between the nut and the support is much smaller. Therefore, it is necessary to add a shimming plate after the tower is lifted; once the bolts are tightened, the shimming plate is welded to the support. In reality, full welding isn’t required – it’s difficult to weld inside, so welding on three sides is sufficient

It is usually welded in during the container manufacturing process; otherwise, it would have to be shipped separately later on
There’s no need for this issue; it can be handled by oneself, and spot welding for fixation is also an option. Some on-site are welded while others are not.
