Does a container flange (equipment flange) count as a “flange”? If the container flange is a flanged type, in accordance with clause 3.2.2.2 of the Large Vessel Code, the flanges of containers holding explosive media must be fully welded through, and butt welding with a neck shall be employed. If the container flange is not a flange type, what structural form should be used for the flange of containers holding explosive materials?
Flanges and equipment flanges are completely different things. Flanges are usually connected to shells with curvature in a manner similar to nozzles, which is why they are specified together with nozzles in section 3.2.2.2. Typically, the bottom of the reaction vessel is equipped with a flange as a discharge port, or a sight glass with a flange structure is used on the upper head. The connection between the equipment flange and the cylinder is similar to that of a pipe flange; you can consider the cylinder as a large pipe.

I misread the last sentence of the post and thought that flanges suitable for explosive media were being used. But then again, for explosive media, it’s better to opt for flanges with a higher sealing rating; for example, when explosive or highly permeable media flow through the pipe side, aren’t WN flanges used for the tube box? I think the principles for selecting flanges for devices of other types should be roughly the same. Please advise~:)

It also depends on your pressure and temperature. Of course, a longer neck is definitely better, but I’ve also seen those that use type B flanges.
The dimensional specifications only set requirements for pipe flanges; there are no requirements for equipment flanges. It is recommended to use long-neck butt-weld flanges. You can also consult the opinion of the supervision and inspection personnel from the special inspection agency responsible for your company; what others say may not be useful, but they are the ones directly in charge of you.
