For the transition section Q345R of fixed-roof storage tanks, with a thickness of 48 mm, is heat treatment required after cold forming? Does the design institute require cold pressing for the transition section, and then heat treatment as well? Is heat treatment necessary? Is there any basis if heat treatment is not required? Spherical tanks are generally formed by cold pressing without heat treatment; overall heat treatment is carried out after welding them on site.

It depends on the degree of deformation. Generally, for low-alloy steel, when the cold forming deformation exceeds 5%, stress relief treatment is necessary, of course in accordance with the design specifications and standard requirements.
