In pressure vessels: what is the difference between net mass and empty mass?
I understand that the net mass refers to the total weight of the pressure vessel shell and all components welded to it (excluding the weight of removable internals and accessories), while the empty mass is the weight of the pressure vessel when it contains no fluid; this weight includes the weight of the removable internals and accessories, that is, it represents the weight of the pressure vessel once it is fully assembled.
The net mass, as I understand it, refers to the mass of the equipment itself, excluding the mass of components such as those used for disassembly, insulation, platforms, packing, and trays. The empty mass includes all values around the aforementioned figure; it is the mass before the medium is inserted.
Net mass refers to the mass of the pressure vessel itself, whereas gross mass is the mass of the vessel itself plus the mass of the accompanying instrumentation
