I would like to ask the experts: what are the principles for designing the bottom plates of storage tanks at atmospheric pressure? For example, if my storage tank’s bottom plate has a diameter of 5900, can I use a single steel plate that is 6000 long and 2000 wide for this purpose? In other words, ignoring cost considerations, is it possible to use three steel plates, each 6000 long and 2000 wide, to construct the bottom plate? This way, there would only be two overlapping seams
Theoretically, the fewer seams, the better
Most things stem from principles, and some have uniform standards for common issues. As long as it meets the principle requirements, it should be fine.

It’s completely possible; this way, the amount of work required for welding and assembly is reduced, less time is spent on it, there are fewer welds, and less deformation of the bottom plate occurs
Buttering the tank bottom plates with such a diameter is the best approach
Lap welding is not suitable for small-diameter storage tanks, as mentioned in the API specifications. For tank bottoms with a diameter of 10 m or less, butt welding is used; the fewer welds, the better
