Refrigeration units use a Freon cycle to create a sub-zero temperature for water supply; what is the principle behind their operation and how are they controlled?
The cooling principle involves the refrigerant (fluorocarbon) gas being compressed by a compressor to increase its pressure; it then condenses into a liquid in the cooling heat exchanger (where the refrigerant gas exchanges heat with water). After passing through a filter and dryer, it is throttled before entering the heat exchanger again (where the liquid refrigerant exchanges heat with water). The refrigerant absorbs heat and evaporates back into a gas, which is then sent back to the compressor for further compression, and the cycle repeats. Gas refrigerant — compressor — condenser — filtration, drying, throttling — evaporator, and then it enters the cycle. Ultimately, water absorbs heat in the evaporator, causing its temperature to drop to 6°C (note: it is not about achieving a sub-zero temperature for the water); this is the function of this device. What was said on the 2nd floor is correct; however, in order to achieve a certain low temperature, thermal balance needs to be taken into account during design, and ordinary Freon can be used to reach a temperature of minus 70 degrees.
