Cracks have appeared in the circumferential weld between the standard elliptical head made of S31008 material and the cylinder (the steel plate thickness is 12, and the cylinder diameter is 1500). The cracks are located roughly in the middle of the weld, running along its length. This weld was created using submerged arc welding; in my opinion, the problem lies with the welding materials. I would like to ask the experts why this issue occurred
Slow cooling after welding, heat treatment to relieve stress. If that doesn’t work, adjust the corresponding parameters in the welding process card.
Please make sure that the 310 material is compatible with your welding material I’ve done this 310 times, and this situation has never occurred before
It is necessary to examine the weld evaluation, welding procedures, welding materials, as well as the compliance with welding procedure standards; only after a thorough investigation can a conclusion be drawn. At the same time, factors such as the head forming process and the assembly process of the cylinder and head must also be considered.
The samples have been sent for testing, but the results are not available yet
The head is cold-pressed; there are no issues with that. The crack appeared right in the middle, and it’s likely related to the welding materials. Currently, we’re waiting for the test results
What grade of welding material and flux is being used?
This material has a relatively high carbon content, so manual welding is recommended, with careful control of heat input.
