Current standards for pressure vessel heads specify a minimum forming thickness, but what is the maximum allowable variation? Up to what limit is it considered acceptable?
As long as it is not less than the minimum forming thickness, it is considered acceptable.
A minimum thickness is specified to prevent insufficient strength of the head due to thinning during processing, while the maximum thickness only needs to ensure that the misalignment when joining with the cylinder does not exceed the specified value; if it does exceed this value, trimming can be carried out in accordance with the requirements of GB/T150. Since the head is subjected to less stress, calculations show that it should not be thicker than the cylinder; being too smart and trying to avoid an overly thick head by trimming it away is not necessary, so generally no consideration is given to ensuring that the head’s thickness falls within acceptable limits.
