For vertical storage tanks with jackets, when calculated using SW6, the entire unit is considered as one entity in the calculations; several nozzles mounted on the tank body fail to meet the requirements, but when calculated separately, all of them pass the criteria. Why is this? (The nozzles mounted on the cylinder are fitted with sleeves.)
Is the jacket pressurized, and can all stress conditions be taken into account by calculating it separately?
There are requirements regarding the distance from the opening to the end of the cylinder, and this is commonly seen when manufacturing ASME vessels.
When the jacket pressure is high, it may seem acceptable if you consider the internal pressure to be low, but the shell pressure is high. A jacket cannot be considered on its own.
