(Thinking about it now, a 100% radiography requirement for this ring seam should be added.) ) I met someone from the manufacturing department today who told me that the straight edges cannot be cut off, otherwise stress analysis is required for strength calculations, and SW6 cannot be used. Is that correct? They also told me that the conical head can only be at 30° or 45°; other angles are not acceptable, otherwise a stress analysis is required, and even SW6 won’t work in such cases. I don’t agree with this; I think other irregular angles work as well, such as 40°, as long as the bend radius requirements are met and the strength calculated using SW6 is satisfactory. Firstly, it is not allowed to remove the straight edges of the head. After those edges are removed, the residual stresses resulting from welding the head to the cylinder, together with the bending stresses at the transition arc of the head and the edge stresses, combine to result in significantly poorer performance in that area compared to when there are straight edges. For the safety of the equipment, it is not permissible to remove the straight edges of the head. Next is the angle of the conical head; as long as it meets the 150 requirement and the calculations are satisfactory, it is completely acceptable, with no other constraints
If there is no pressure, it’s fine to cut off the straight edges. In pressure-bearing applications, the straight-edge section is used to eliminate structural discontinuities and prevent stress concentration from creating weak areas in that area
