These small holes on the nut are used with a hydraulic tensioner. The hydraulic tensioner has a sleeve that is put on the outside of the nut. After stretching the bolt, the dial hole on the sleeve is moved from the gap to drive the nut to tighten. Some nuts have a dial hole on the side. You can directly turn the nut to tighten the nut without using the sleeve. See HG 21573 standard for details. The hydraulic stretch nut uses a pull-out hole. This kind of bolt can be tightened and disassembled by two methods: hammer wrench and hydraulic stretching.
