In recent years, China’s pressure vessel manufacturing industry has developed rapidly. The trend toward larger-scale installations in sectors such as coal chemistry and petrochemicals has led to pressure vessels with higher parameters and larger sizes, thereby creating excellent opportunities for the industry to grow and expand at an unprecedented pace. There has been a significant increase in the number of manufacturing units, as well as in factory facilities, equipment capacity, product specifications, and production capacity. Technology and quality levels have also improved steadily; the technical complexity and quality of certain products now approach, reach, or even exceed those of advanced foreign counterparts, which has established China’s position as a major player in the global pressure vessel manufacturing sector. Of course, there is still a certain gap in some aspects compared to developed countries. Overall, China’s pressure vessel manufacturing industry should pay attention to the following: 1. Improving the quality of engineering and technical personnel as well as skilled workers. The increase in production capacity and the rapid growth in the number of manufacturing enterprises have exacerbated the already existing weakness in terms of technical expertise compared to foreign manufacturers. Many enterprises neglect the training and retraining of engineering and technical personnel and skilled workers, resulting in a lack of professionalism and craftsmanship among them. 2. Further development of specialized manufacturing. Before the 1980s, China’s pressure vessel manufacturing enterprises were either large and comprehensive or small and comprehensive; they pursued modern manufacturing in a manner reminiscent of a small-scale agricultural economy where no external assistance was sought. As a result, equipment utilization rates were low, work efficiency was poor, costs remained high, equipment renewal was slow, technological progress was sluggish, and there was a lack of features that could attract the market. After decades of market operation and economic development, this closed-type manufacturing model has undergone significant changes. Specialized manufacturers of components such as forgings, end caps, corrugated expansion joints, elbows, tees, and sealing elements (gaskets, studs or bolts, nuts) have gradually grown stronger, with their manufacturing capabilities greatly improved and the standards for their products raised. The technology and quality of their products remain stable, and a specialized manufacturing model for pressure vessel components has been established and is operating smoothly ; Specialized manufacturing (inspection, testing) enterprises in areas such as heat treatment, non-destructive testing, physical and chemical testing, and machining have established a market scale, with smooth channels for supply or subcontracting. However, there are still some shortcomings in specialized manufacturing at present. For instance, the industry regulation system is not well-developed; some specialized manufacturing enterprises lack a strong sense of self-discipline. Influenced by market competition and profit motives, they lack sufficient motivation to pursue technological advancement and produce high-precision, cutting-edge products. The technological content and quality of their products need to be improved. Additionally, the development of subcontracting services in areas such as heat treatment, non-destructive testing, and physical and chemical testing progresses slowly. Therefore, specialized manufacturing still needs to be gradually refined and further developed. Only through specialized production can products be made increasingly refined, costs reduced, and equipment renewal as well as technological progress accelerated. In the future, as China’s regulatory framework for special equipment continues to evolve (with the possibility of subcontracting tubular section manufacturing), the primary task for container manufacturing companies will be to ensure proper assembly. 3. Improve corporate technical standards and raise their level. At present, some domestic manufacturing enterprises do not have their own technical standards and rely entirely on national standards and industry standards for production. Some companies, although they have their own corporate technical standards, still simply copy national and industry standards. National and industry standards are actually the minimum quality requirements to ensure usability and safety; they represent universal requirements that all types of products within a given category must meet. Relying solely on national and industry standards makes it difficult to produce high-quality products with distinct features. Advanced manufacturing companies abroad place great emphasis on establishing their own technical standards, investing substantial human and financial resources in doing so. The goal is to fully leverage the potential of these manufacturing enterprises to produce products of quality that exceeds **standard requirements, using advanced, cost-effective, and convenient methods. 4. Enhancing the effectiveness of the quality control system. Compared to overseas manufacturing entities, most pressure vessel manufacturers in China have at least the following weaknesses: first, there is a lack of awareness regarding the “legal” aspects of implementing a quality control system; there is evidence of arbitrary decision-making by superiors, administrative interference, and short-sighted practices. Complying with regulations thus becomes a major challenge, and there is a lack of a vision for long-term development ; Secondly, the quality management and quality inspection departments do not hold a high status; during the product manufacturing process, they lack the necessary \"authority\" to control and manage product quality issues ; Third, the quality control system personnel lack the necessary qualifications and are insufficient in number; some rapidly growing container manufacturing units resort to \"hiring\" such personnel in order to obtain the qualification to manufacture pressure vessels ; Fourth, there is a neglect of the accumulation and transmission of corporate culture; poor work and operational habits that have developed over time are deeply entrenched. Industrial workers lack the artisanal spirit for which technology is considered an \"art\", products are seen as \"masterpieces\", and quality is regarded as an \"image\". 5. Developing intelligent manufacturing: Entering a new era, China’s equipment manufacturing sector is moving toward smarter equipment, and the same is true for the container manufacturing industry. The manufacturing of pressure vessels is characterized by single-piece or small-batch production, non-standard designs, complex manufacturing processes, involvement of numerous specialized fields and sophisticated equipment, as well as long production cycles. Therefore, it is also unrealistic to achieve full-process intelligent manufacturing in containers, but the use of intelligent equipment in the manufacturing of components and in production processes is an inevitable trend for future development. Currently, intelligent equipment is already being used in tasks such as material removal, marking, cutting, welding, and non-destructive testing.
