There is currently one unit in use, with a tube sheet made of S31603 that is welded to a cylinder made of Q345R. The medium used is steam, at a temperature of 220°C, and the pressure is not high. In the recommended table for 47015, A302/A312/A307 are used. I would like to ask: 1. Under these operating conditions, can A302 electrodes be used? 2. If not under these conditions, and when higher requirements apply—specifically, when intergranular corrosion must be considered—should A312 or A042 electrodes be used instead? 3: If A312/A042 is used, the weld evaluation for A302 can be applied; I’ve seen online that if there are requirements (tests) regarding intergranular corrosion for the welded material made of A312, then the weld evaluation for A302 does not apply in such cases.
The following are my personal opinions: 1. E309 can be used without problems in the welding of dissimilar steels; low-carbon grades or those with added Mo should also work fine. 2 Currently, the welds resulting from the welding of carbon steel and stainless steel that I have encountered seem to suffer little from intergranular corrosion. If available, a low-carbon version with Mo would certainly be better. 3 An alternative to individual understanding should be that it is only applicable under the premise of conducting basic tests such as stretching and bending; no additional testing items can serve as a substitute for it.
