The thin tube sheet is welded to the shell; can the structure shown in the right diagram be used? Communicate more! Thank you!
For safety reasons, it is not recommended to make such changes； The reason is that the heat input during welding at the right-side contacts is much higher than that at the left side, which can cause deformation, stress concentration, and other safety-related issues.
With small-area surfacing, the stress should not be high!
Any uneven heating will cause deformation, and the cause of deformation is stress.
For the one on the right, the tube sheet functions as a gasket; its capacity to bear pressure is questionable, and the shell is joined together as a single unit.
That’s not good. Our thin tube sheets are all made as elbow joints, so the outer diameter of the tube sheet is 8–10 units larger than that of the shell
