In our design department, CD-type welds do not have a surface finish. But isn’t helium highly permeable? Wouldn’t it be better for surface inspection?
For pressure vessels containing helium, surface inspection of the welds is indeed recommended due to helium’s high permeability. This allows for more effective detection of any minor cracks or holes that may exist, preventing helium leaks and ensuring safe use.
