Since the unit of Q is N, wouldn’t the unit of the bending moment M also be N? Shouldn’t the unit of bending moment M be N.m instead? Hello! Indeed, according to the standard rules for physical units, the unit of bending moment M should be N·m (newtons·meter). If the unit of Q in the formula is N (newton), then a length unit (such as meter) is also needed to multiply it in order to obtain the unit of bending moment, which is N·m. Here, the uniformly distributed load w is calculated using the formula w=Q/al, and its unit should be Ib/in2. As a result, the unit of Mb becomes the unit of force, which is Ib. Only if w’s unit is Ib/in would Mb’s unit be the unit of bending moment, namely Ib·in. Is the national standard based on this?
