When using the SW6 software to calculate the reinforcement for splices, it is necessary to enter the actual protrusion height h1 of the splice. Is this h1 simply the length by which the splice protrudes? Does it include the flange height for WN-type flanges? In GB/T150.3, there is only the term h1; no specific definition is given. It is not clear whether there is an actual formula for determining the overhang height in some other standard or source. I’ve seen many others’ calculation sheets, and it seems that they all don’t include the height of the flanges; however, those found online sometimes include the flange height and other times do not. I hope some expert can help clarify this

In fact, the length required for taking over and reinforcing is much shorter than what we actually use, so there’s no need to worry about this length value
