I encountered a plate heat exchanger where the temperature in the circulating water recovery pipeline was inconsistent: the temperature on the side close to the hot medium was high, while the temperature on the other side was almost the same as that of the inlet water. It seemed that no heat exchange was taking place. Is this caused by flow imbalance or fouling of the plates? I’d appreciate everyone’s insights on this matter.

Deflection is a phenomenon; the internal cause is estimated to be scaling.
Is it in the same pipeline? Is it possible that they are holding their breath? If there is no heat exchange, it’s very likely that too much dirt has caused a blockage. I once encountered a unit with fixed tube sheets, where the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet was only two degrees. It was only after cutting that I realized the shell side was completely blocked.
Some people upstairs have misunderstood; it’s not the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet, but rather the uneven temperature at the outlet pipe. Generally, the temperature within a single pipe should be consistent, but there is a problem here – the temperature at the outlet pipe is not uniform.

The original poster might not have understood what I meant. What I mean is that if there is a discrepancy in temperatures, it’s very likely due to severe scaling – half of the pipes have become completely blocked. But if it’s due to scaling, it’s hard to explain why it occurs at the outlet. I don’t know how high the outlet temperature is?
It’s completely normal; just think about the direction of flow of the medium and you’ll understand.
