Well, there are many factors that influence the heat exchange efficiency of a heat exchanger; it’s not possible to determine its efficiency based solely on the heat transfer coefficient. The coefficient in question relates to the acid- and alkali-resistant fluoroplastic material used, which is in the form of capillaries with a diameter generally below 10 mm. Therefore, within the same heat exchange area, a larger number of capillary bundles can compensate for the lower heat transfer efficiency of such devices compared to metal heat exchangers, resulting in better heat exchange performance. This also addresses the issue of corrosion resistance. In comparison, fluoroplastic heat exchangers have a longer service life and ensure effective heat transfer, which is why many people choose them.
As the original poster said, although fluoroplastic heat exchangers have a lower heat transfer coefficient, they are still needed in some low-pressure and corrosive applications.
